Banner Years

Banner Years (MCMA Permanent Collection)

Dates: July 11 – September 6, 2015

Banner Years is a fine art exhibition featuring the latest acquisitions from our Permanent Collection.  It is through the generous donations of artists and collectors that MCMA presents to the public a display of fine art demonstrating the pure quality and craftsmanship of contemporary and traditional American Art.

What exactly does an artist see when they begin a new creation? Does the stone reveal the finished sculpture before a tool has been raised to make the first incision? Does the white canvas or page appear to them as a completed work? Are the elements of shape, color, space, line, texture, form, and value even considered with the first stroke?  These questions can only be answered by the artists themselves.

Works by Michael Leidel: As a graphic artist, Michael grew up the youngest of three children in a Foreign Service family, attending school in Mexico City, Mexico, Buenos Aires, Argentina and graduated high school in Bethesda, Maryland.  He continued his education with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in communication arts from East Carolina University and a Master of Business Administration degree in Marketing from Georgia State University. When we asked him why he chose art as a career he said “I was exposed to art in three different cultures and I realized at a young age that every experience in life is enhanced by art and design”. He has been a graphic designer for more than 25 years. Michael has worked with The Marietta/ Cobb Museum of Art for the last nine years. He created the banners you see in this exhibition as well as many more. His graphic design talent is truly amazing.  He seems, with little effort, to produce fabulous graphic works that reflect the artist’s talents and intrigue the art patron.

Waitlist On occasion, we have a student who withdraws from a class. We will notify you if a spot becomes available.
